Scanning stops loading/scanning

Hi, When scanning TV stations, the scanning stops refreshing/loading/scanning in the browser and does not move - at 75% Any ideas? Thanks, Lee

You can also disable/delete/create muxes using Configuration -> DVB Inputs -> Muxes.

At the point the scanning stops the status information fields are either blank, '0' or 'unknown'.

Are you scanning for DVBT channels or DVBS channels. If DVBS what satellite are you trying to tune from. There’s a known bad mux on the predefined scan table for Astra 28.3 that causes a scan to loop infinitely. I suggest deleting the network you’ve already created and manually add a known working mux and do a full network scan that should resolve your problem. It really would help to know what network you are trying to scan for.

I am using the UK free to air services Freeview. The Freeview website says my best transmitter is Hannington. But the wizard only finds 7 muxes and no services for this. So I opted for the second recommendation from Freeview, a transmitter called Rowbridge. It was this transmitter that prompted me to message the forum as it just got stuck 3/4 through the scanning and stopped.

Update: the network is 'DVB-T Network'

What are you using as an antenna (aerial)? Hannington and Rowridge are likely to be in completely different directions from where you are, so did you adjust the direction your antenna is pointed in when you switched transmitter? Is it vertical or horizontal?

Hannington only has 6 muxes according to https://ukfree.tv/transmitters/tv/Hannington and https://www.aerialsandtv.com/knowledge/transmitters/hannington-transmitter Rowridge has an additional local mux.

Looking at the aerialsandtv site, it seems you might benefit from local expert advice if trying to use Rowhedge.

The really big horizon on a vertical poll ariel on our roof is shared between 6 apartments.

I'm happy to focus on the recommendation from from Freeview for the Hannington transmitter, but then I go back to my original problem of locating a few muxes and no services.

I'm going to plug in a little TV I have and see what it finds on this same connection.

Lee made all the difference hearing that you are using DVBT and Freeview and not DVBS and Freesat.I don’t use DVBT as Freeview on DVBT is outside my catchment area. That could have saved me a bit of time.

Not sure what DVBT tuner you are using but it’s beginning to sound like your tuner is drawing too much power and failing during the scan. Is the tuner powered separately or plugged directly into the board. Speaking of boards assuming you are using an ARM based one, which one is it and what model of tuner is attached to it.

Check your tuner power requirements and ensure your antenna is correctly attached up and aligned properly.

If you mean vertical polarity (?) then that's not going to pick up Harrington, which uses horizontal polarisation according to those websites. Rowridge apparently transmits both polarisations, so you should get something there. But best to check with somebody who knows exactly what antenna installation you have. Maybe another flat, or better yet the installer?

Using another TV sounds like a good test.

Most antenna are physically aligned with the polarity, yes. But there are many possible variations, so it's important to know exactly what you've got and which way it's pointing.

Try your idea of using another TV to see what it can receive.

Lee if you search the forum here you’ll find a detailed post on the subject of the RPI and the DVBT Hat and the problems the user encountered.

In order to rule out power issues you’ll need to do some form of measuring of power usage. I suggest you look a little further than this forum for a possible solution. You could try running the dmesg command to check for an under voltage condition while the HAT is scanning.

You may also want to run debug and post the results back here. This is probably the best course of action at this stage.

If you look at the log file, you should be able to see which mux was the last to be successfully scanned.

Jonas Lang ok will do. I tried the debug log at the beginning, but it kept being empty. I'll have another look at permissions tomorrow a long with the power info.

Lee try reseating the Pi Hat on the RPI board. Those Hats are known to come loose over time. Also you may want to try and carry out a scan outside of TVH using something like this zikusooka/dvbt-scan
