Aren't you embarrassed to make a response like this? In my 27 years as a software developer, I would NEVER blow off a well-worded request for information.
I am not asking for actual support; I am asking that someone familiar with the tvheadend startup logic -- someone who almost certainly has seen issues such as this -- to spend 3 to 5 minutes looking at the output and making suggestions. Once that is done, I can address the issue and send the fix upstream, to benefit everyone.
I wouldn't expect the snap team to know the answer; they are the subject matter experts on snap and packaging, not necessarily tvhjeadend. No, a subject matter expert from the tvheadend team is needed, and it's utterly irresponsible to try to punt it. This is the behavior of poor commercial support groups, not people who actually care about the product.
This needs to be addressed by someone familiar with tvheadend and its architecture and design. Is it changing the environment passed to perl? Is there an option to get better debug information? Is there some resource limit that might now be exceeded? Is this part of a class of symptoms that has been seen elsewhere during development?
BTW, I tried the installation instructions on tvheadend.org,, specifically:
https://docs.tvheadend.org/documentation/installation/linux
which includes installation command lines that aren't even syntactically correct (I also note that the referenced URL in the curl statements, at least for deb, does not exist). Since the tvheadend website didn't have valid installation instructions, I decided to "waste my time" with the snap version. If someone on the tvheadend team want to fix THAT (and that would clearly be the responsibility of the team, and probably require substantially more effort), fine.
Now the team has said it will provide installable package on that same website:
Tvheadend aims to provide installable packages for as long as possible to extend the usable life of server and tuner hardware. In practice this means if we can still automate regular build testing for popular distributions and versions we will have binaries available.
Instead of the minimal support pointers I've asked about, I would be happy to install the package you provide. Please tell me where I can douwnload it.
