oliversluke has just made another release. Thank you Oliver. Here are some highlights:

The EPG Timeline has: some new options; added date navigation buttons at the top; and now does sub-title/description fallback like the Classic UI.

There is a new 'Magazine' style EPG page.

Table fields to be displayed can be selected.

This summary is by no means comprehensive, but it gives an overview of progress.

For those people with some Linux command line knowledge, but not enough skill to build TVH from source, I have hacked together a ZIP file that should contain a stand-alone copy of the new interface which should enable testing on an existing TVH system.

Stop TVH
Unzip the file into /usr/local/share/tvheadend/src/webui/static. It should create a modern directory.
Restart TVH
Browse to http://[tvh_ip]:9981/static/modern/index.html

I tested it on my system and it seems to work, but remember, failure is always an option. Proceed at your own risk.

I just tried it on my very old system and it worked 🙂 🙂 Even without stopping TVH! (I must like to live dangerously). It looks better in the flesh than in your images.

One thing I noticed straight away is that it would be useful to me to have the channel number alongside the channel name (in the wasted space?).

An indication of which programmes are going to be recorded is an obvious thing as well.

edit to add: The tooltip keeps blinking off, in fact the whole display greys out about once a second. I don't know why that is, but it's annoying.

This has already been requested and acknowledged. It's just a matter of time.

Oliver is currently trying to get the foundations operational. I often forget this myself. Features like this, while certainly useful, are not 'core' and can be addressed at a later stage.

I just looked at the other tabs. In DVR / "Upcoming/Current Recordings" there are two empty columns "disp_extratext" and "episode_disp". What are they and how do I manage the display of columns?

UPDATE: This is actually a bug in the existing TVH code. Oliver has submitted a fix for it. I have not investigated any further, however, I suspect that the Classic WebUI does not impose 'strict' JSON parsing in the same way the Modern UI may.

DeltaMikeCharlie There is an ultra-compact 'Minuscule' mode that compacts the EPG Timeline onto one line per channel.

That might be useful in some circumstances, but I have TVH configured to never use channel icons, so I suspect it wouldn't work for me.

Here is today's update summary.

There is an ultra-compact 'Minuscule' mode that compacts the EPG Timeline onto one line per channel.
There is a clock and HDD percentage on the bottom left that display a tooltip with more info when the mouse hovers.

When an EPG entry is scheduled for recording, there is a bar beneath the event that included pre/post padding too.

The EPG details drawer has also had some nice features added.

Progress has been going well, however, there are no new massive features that a screenshot can highlight, just lots of natural progress by building on what's already there.

For example, the idnode grid looks very similar, but with a lot of refinement like sorting and filtering by column.

Here is a 'hacked' stand-alone ZIP of the latest version. I have not tested this personally, but I followed the same process as last time. Let me know if I messed up.

Sorry limewire doesn't display anything sensible here. There's some small stuff in corners that may or may not be writing but nothing I can read. Clicking in various places doesn't seem to do much.

Thanks. I discovered that FF was showing the site at a very small magnification. I have no idea why! But after I restored the size, I discovered the download doesn't seem to work. It says downloading but never starts and says it can't read the source.
