Olympics max recordings?

Hello, I have been a tvheadend user for a long time. I only have an issue every two years with the Olympics, it seems when it hits Olympics-1 becomes Olympics-30 it deletes like 80% of the Olympics-* and starts over again. Why would it delete @ 30, and can I change this behavior? 30 seems like an arbitrary number...

Thanks, I am trying folders by day etc, I just thought I would post if maybe I could find root cause and know I fixed it.

The Olympics are usually every four years, but the interval from the previous to this one is only three years. So I'm confused whether the issue is to do with time or the number of recordings or what?
Have you looked at the various settings in Configuration/Recording that determine how long recordings are kept and what their names are? Maybe something in there is causing your issue.

sjgieson Under Configuration | Recordings | Digital Video Recording Profiles check the settings in each of your profiles (you may or may not have more than one). Under the DVR behavior settings look especially at items such as "DVR file retention period" (set to "Forever"), "Autorec maximum count (0=unlimited)" (set to 0), and "Autorec maximum schedule limit (0=unlimited)" (set to 0). Then scroll down to the Recording File Options and make sure that "Maintain free storage space in MiB" is not set too high. Finally scroll down further to Filename Options and consider checking the boxes next to "Include date in filename" and "Include time in filename" to make sure each recording has a unique name, not just a sequential number at the end. I would bet changing those items as indicated will solve your problem. In particular, if one of the "Autorec Maximum" settings is 30 then you have probably found the culprit.

What exactly gets reset at 30?
Are you referring to recording file names or scheduled recordings?

The recorded files, get deleted from the file system. Scheduled recording continue to work but eventually will get deleted again.

Over the years this issue has surfaced on completely different systems, I didn't migrate any settings so seems like a default behavior.

Could well be. 🙂 I tend to think of the Olympics as a summer thing, and then as separate things there are Paralympics, Winter Olympics etc.

With the help of a script, I created 161 recordings, all called "Test". After the first one, they all got a numerical suffix and none were deleted. To do the test, I had to remove the "Format string/Pathname specification" parameter in my DVR profile and leave it empty.

Please provide more information on which version of TVH you are running and where you installed it from.
