Building a system to record TV 24 hours using 8 tuners card from TBS

Hello Everyone
I want to build a computer to record Satellite TV 24 hours around the clock using a TBS6909X card 8 Tuner.

I have no experience in using this

Can someone help understand what will I need. I already ordered the capture card.
What type of computer requirements will I need.
Processor 14 Gen intel? i7? i9?
how much RAM Memory will i need? 16GB? 32GB? 64GB?
Do I need a GPU or no? RTX 4060? 4070? 4080? 4090?

I want to build a very solid and reliable computer that will not lag or be buggy

If anyone had experience in this i would appreciate their input and help

As long as you are just recording transport streams and not doing any further local processing you wouldn’t need anything too fancy. Maybe if you expanded a little more on what your use case scenario is you might get a more definitive recommendation

Be aware that TBS cards do not have drivers in the Linux kernel tree. So you will have to dodge around and find the right ones. Then every time there is a kernel update you will have to manually rebuild the drivers (in fact the whole media tree). I have a TBS card; I speak from experience. My response has been to go out and buy a Hauppauge card to replace the TBS one.

If you've already bought the card, I would recommend returning it.

DaveH and so many Linux users would disagree with you on TBS cards. They seem to prefer the hardship of dealing with breaking kernel updates as a trade off for a quality product.

Personally I’ve no idea why anyone would need to record 8 channels at any one time other than for commercial use or other nefarious uses and those cards are not cheap. I’d rather opt for a couple of Sat/IP tuners like the Digibit Twins and be done with worrying about kernel updates and missing firmware.

I have zero experience in this and i went to local computer shop. They have never built something like this for this setup.

Can someone help me communicate the requirements and setup of this?

I think Ill go with an i7 14 Gen, 32GB RAM and a large HDD Drive maybe WD Gold 18TB or something

I want to be able to record 24 hours of two channels to start and then build up

Can be done with simple Celeron 512 ram and whatever storage you want.
