Thank you for using the Tvheadend forum. This document will inform you about the data Tvheadend project holds on users that signed up for the forum. It is important for Tvheadend to be as open to its users as possible. Hopefully, it will answer most of the questions that you might have, however should anything be left unanswered, you are free to contact the project at anytime.
Information the Tvheadend forum collects
None of the records that Tvheadend holds about visitors and/or users have been, are being, or will ever be sold to third parties by Tvheadend under any circumstances.
During Signup
When you first signup at the main Tvheadend forum https://new.tvheadend.org, you will be asked to enter the following details:
Username: Your desired forum username. This is your public identity on the forum.
Your Email address: This is the main source of contact that Tvheadend uses (read below). It is private to all users including moderators, but can be viewed by administrators of the forum.
Password: This is used to authenticate you to the forum.
reCAPTCHA: This is a forum plugin we use to confirm that account creation is being requested by a human. The reCAPTCHA service is provided by Google and their Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply during this process.
Your Email Address
Tvheadend uses your email address only for the purpose of contacting you about important updates to the forum:
When your account is created, the forum will send a welcome email containing a one-time use URL link to click and confirm your address and activate the account.
If you click the "Forgot password?" link during login the forum will ask for your confirmed email address, and will send an email with a one-time use URL link to click and reset your password.
If there are security incidents we may send a notification to impacted users.
Email addresses collected by Tvheadend have never been, are not, and will never be used for purposes such as marketing, advertisements, newsletters, spam or other forms of annoying emails that are usually sent without prior consent. We only send you important updates (read above), which means that because of this, it is impossible to unsubscribe from Tvheadend important email notifications.
The forum can also send general forum notifications, e.g. send emails to make you aware of @mentions, or new posts to a discussion you subscribed to. These preferences can be managed by you under your profile.
Your Password
To authenticate, your stored forum account password hash will be compared against a hashed version of the password entered during the login process at https://new.tvheadend.org.
You may change your forum password from the forum interface. To do this, navigate to your user profile settings then click on the "Change password" button.
If you forget your password, navigate to the forum while logged out and click the "Login" button in the top-right menu bar, then click on the "Forgot password?" link at the bottom of the login window. You will be asked to enter your email address. If your address matches a record in our database, you will receive an email containing a password reset link.
All passwords are hashed using bcrypt. This process is handled by the Flarum forum software and its internal libraries and components, and Tvheadend has no influence over how passwords are generated and stored by the Flarum forum software internally.
Access tokens are created after a successful login to the forum, and are stored in a table in the forum database. Access tokens expire after 1 hour of inactivity. You can learn more about Flarum's authentication system here.
Does Tvheadend use Cookies?
Yes, for the purpose of storing access tokens, which are fetched by the forum server to authenticate the user. Other cookies may originate from third-party services that can't be influenced by Tvheadend (read below). Cookies that are managed by Tvheadend are strictly used only to maintain proper forum functionality, and have not been, are not, and will not be used for marketing purposes.
Tvheadend and Log Files
Tvheadend retains log files of forum server functions for monitoring and troubleshooting purposes. We aim to retain data for no longer than one year. Some of these records include information about every request that was made to the forum server, which may include (but is not limited to): the request's IP address, method, URL, etc.
Third-party Services & Software
The following third-party services are being used by Tvheadend:
Cloudflare: for proxying requests made to the forum to guard the service against attacks and other potential internet threats
reCAPTCHA for protecting the forum registration and login form
StopForumSpam for protecting the forum from spam posts
Tvheadend does NOT use tracking services, tracking snippets, tracking programs or other third-party services that harvest visitor data for marketing or advertising purposes.
Deletion Requests
Users can request their account and personal data to be deleted. Tvheadend handles such requests through an account anonymisation process, i.e. the username and email details will be modified to disassociate the account from your identity. We do not delete discussions that you created or posts that you made as their removal would impact readability of the forum for other users.
Data Requests
Forum posts are not considered to be personally identifiable personal data. Therefore we can provide an export, but it will contain nothing more than your username, email, and limited IP address data.
