Do we need to wait on decoding from ffmpeg just to pass through ac4 audio? I realize ATSC3 might be dead before ffmpeg merges the decoding, but I'm wondering if it would be possible for TVH to pass it through as it is. As of now, it can't.

Believe me I've dumped many hours and I'm just not capable. I'd be asking for a merge if so. Maybe with some coaching? On the threads asking for AC-4 transcodes people keep saying that if you get a version of ffmpeg that supports ac-4 then it will just work, which isn't exactly true. If you use a spawn profile to transcode it then TVH never sees AC-4 at all. Even if your ffmpeg supports AC-4, I don't believe TVH can "pass" profile that.

If you have any direction to offer other than me doing it myself, I'd be willing to spend more time trying. Me doing it myself seems so obvious that it feels passive-aggressive to suggest, I sincerely hope I didn't offend you and I apologize if I did.

There are only a few people who are really familiar with the code, myself not included so I can't really help you. Also I don't have the time to provide support or guide someone through the development process.

Please let me know if you want to continue trying to work on it or if I should close this.
