Description

Now that we have vaapi\nvenc working inside tvheadend could it be possible to add a few more options to the NVENC?

My idea is to be able to choose from:

Hardware acceleration methods:
cuda
cuvid

and them the decoder:

V..... h264_cuvid Nvidia CUVID H264 decoder (codec h264)
V..... hevc_cuvid Nvidia CUVID HEVC decoder (codec hevc)
....etc

and respective options like:

-deint <int> .D.V.... Set deinterlacing mode (from 0 to 2) (default weave)
weave .D.V.... Weave deinterlacing (do nothing)
bob .D.V.... Bob deinterlacing
adaptive .D.V.... Adaptive deinterlacing
-gpu <string> .D.V.... GPU to be used for decoding
-surfaces <int> .D.V.... Maximum surfaces to be used for decoding (from 0 to INT_MAX) (default 25)
-drop_second_field <boolean> .D.V.... Drop second field when deinterlacing (default false)
-crop <string> .D.V.... Crop (top)x(bottom)x(left)x(right)
-resize <string> .D.V.... Resize (width)x(height)

and finally the encoders options

this also could be done with a "box" to run a custom command!

I also understand that we allready have the spawn but from my tests it seens to have some lag maybe because of in/out with pipe!

Thanks

I've not found a time to add this (also I cannot test this easily).

I could help with testing and if you want I have also a testbed that you can use.

Will this be good enough to arrange some time or do you prefer to do it another time?

Thanks @saen acro i am having really really good results playing with cuvid as hw aceleration and as decoder with his own resize/deinterlace options.

Using 2 pass or lookahead the quality is really really good!

So that means it is already usable within tvheadend. My goal would be to use Nvidia GPU to deinterlace 1080i h264 channels with adaptive deinterlacing and then encode again to 1080p with high quality, maybe even to 1080p x265. Is that possible currently with tvheadend if I choose it in the transcoding options?

Yes it id just make it available with hand made package
