Historically, New Zealand users outside of Auckland have not been able to receive a full 7 day EPG schedule. The underlying reason for this is described in a technical blurb below.
Today (14 October 2026 UTC) the NZ EPG grabber has been updated to work outside of Auckland. This has been tested by a real-life Kiwi user in Wellington (Thanks 'osirase') as well as on my development system using sample data files.
The names of the NZ EPG grabbers have also been changed to more accurately describe their functionality.
"New Zealand: Freeview Local" renamed to "New Zealand: Outside Auckland (Freeview Local)"
"New Zealand: Freeview Base" renamed to "New Zealand: Auckland (Freeview Base)"
When upgrading to this release, some EPG reconfiguration may be required because of this rename.
- The EPG grabber module may need to be re-enabled.
- Each mux may need the EPG grabber module to be re-selected.
As I am typing this, the automated build system is still working on completing packages for every OS/Architecture combination. However, once this is complete, New Zealanders are encouraged to download and test this updated version.
Users in Auckland are also requested to test the "Outside Auckland" variant on their systems and report their results. The reason for this request is that the even though the "Outside Auckland" option was engineered to address the specific needs of those users, it should also coincidentally work with Auckland EPG data in Auckland as well.
If we can prove that "Outside Auckland" works for Auckland too, we can merge both NZ EPG grabbers into a single NZ EPG Grabber for terrestrial services. As I understand the situation, Satellite services in NZ only need the standard EPG grabber, not an NZ variant.
Technical Blurb (Feel free to ignore)
The digital TV signal contains 3 values that uniquely identify a specific service. These are called the ONID, TSID and SID.
In New Zealand, regardless of the actual TSID in use locally, the EPG data always contains the TSID from Auckland. Because of this, EPG data outside Auckland can not be matched to a local service because the TSID does not match.
The fix is to take the TSID from the local tuned service and overwrite the (Auckland) TSID in the EPG before the EPG is processed. Because the EPG data now contains the local TSID, a match can be found to a local service and the EPG processed successfully.
