Transcode to HEVC on Proxmox/N100

Hello Guys!

HARDWARE:
n100 – mini PC
8GB RAM
256 SSD

SOFTWARE:
Proxmox
TVHeadend on LXC

I spent 4 days installing different versions of TVHeadend on Proxmox on my n100. It connects with Kodi and works correctly via HTSP. Otherwise, it doesn’t connect on VLC, and every time it asks for a password even though the user has enabled:

Stream:
BASIC and HTSP

Streaming profile:
Everything that is available (there is no HEVC or H265)

works very well. However, I need H265 and HEVC because at my wilage ! I have a slow internet connection (_15–20 Mbps), and I would like to watch TV there in good quality. H265 would be perfect for that.

I would really appreciate any help because neither ChatGPT, Gemini, nor my patience can handle this 🙂

I also use Proxmox, but I created a virtual PC based on Debian 13 and passed my GPU (Nividia Quadro P4000) to the virtual machine.

What hardware do you have exactly, because a stream should also be able to transcode the CPU.

I Have N100 mini pci with 8GB RAM, 256 SSD, and instalen proxmox - on First LXC i have HA nad secondery LXC this TVHeaned

ON LXC TVHeanfded i add 4 core and 4GB RAM and 32GB SSD i add everything from ukn_unknown solution. On SAT/IP i add VU Solo 4K 4 DVB-S becasuse i have old Unicable I

I compiled tvheadend from scratch with the transcoding option enabled, added it to the codec profiles as well as the transcoding profiles.

The M3U playlist downloads correctly according to the user and the profile works, however only when the user is first on the list (I don’t know why).
I also noticed that the image quality is worse — what does this result from? It was supposed to be the same quality.

What would be the most optimal choice for an Android TV client and Mi Box S with TiviMate?

At my summer house I have very poor internet (around 15–25 Mbps) and a MikroTik connected via WireGuard to my home. I thought this would be the best solution, because a raw TS H.264 stream is impossible to watch — constant buffering and stuttering.

I’m thinking that HEVC and 1080i would be the best solution, unless I’m mistaken — in that case I would really appreciate recommendations for something better.

depends on what settings you have for encoder. In general something is lost when you plan to compress the video / audio more. How much is lost is the question.

"andriod tv" is too generic to help us understand what hardware you have; but the "Mi Box S" support h265 (hevc) hardware decoding. So you should use hevc encoding on tvh side.

I think you don't have continuously this throughput ... because a full HD 1080 h264 stream is using between 7.5 --> 15MBPS for PAL 25 frames. To check your real speed I recommend you to check how much is the speed though wireguard (you can use iperf3 for that).

HEVC is your best bet ... but N100 is not the "The sharpest tool in the shed".
I don't have this particular CPU but I have a N5105 (the predecessor) ... and is the low cost version of hardware encoding. Is OK for decoding.
