Occasional double recordings with different start/end times from same channel

Pretty frequently I end up with two recordings of documentaries from local channels. Interesting is that they come from autorec, but have different start/end times for each recording from SAME local channel. For example:

docu A / start 11:56 / end 12:20 / filesize 100mb docu A / start 11:59 / end 12:23 / filesize 110mb

So, two recordings, and really, there are two files in dvr directory, docu A.ts and docu A-1.ts
BUT the issue is that when I try to play each (download playlist file and check it with vlc), both recordings point to docu A.ts file. I understand that perhaps some glitch in EPG happened on the channel so there are two same entries to record, but it is strange that even though there are really two separate recordings in my case, BOTH point to same file. And if I am not careful, I might delete wrong one by accident because if I delete any of the two, only docu A.ts will get deleted 🙂
Currently I am using 4.3-2366~g9ac57a0c1 version.

Do you have multiple autorec entries with the same keywords that use different PVR profiles that have different pre/post padding set?

Type the following into your web browser.

http://[YOUR_TVH_IP]:9981/api/dvr/entry/grid_finished

In the resulting gobbledegook, look for both filename fields and then see if the autorec codes are the same. Also look at the start_extra and the stop_extra values.

DeltaMikeCharlie Thanks for suggestion, as far as I see I have another duplicate and autorec is the same, filenames are different. But if I try to play them, 1000% only one file will be "linked" to both recordings.

I think that you are matching 2 individual EPG entries. You have a dvb_eid of 0 and broadcast of 0 for one recording and 324 / 409197 for the other recording.

The first one (with 0) was created on Thursday, 6 February 2025 10:15:01 PM (GMT) with a start time of Thursday, 6 February 2025 10:18:00 PM (GMT). 3 minutes prior.
The second one was created on Wednesday, 5 February 2025 11:26:05 AM (GMT) with a start time of Thursday, 6 February 2025 10:15:00 PM (GMT). Over a day prior.

My best guess is that the broadcaster is sending this EPG entry twice. Once a long time in advance and once just before the show starts. Perhaps something is wrong in the now/next processing, I'm not sure.

You could enable debug/trace for dvr to see if you can get some more information. (Configuration/Debugging/Configuration)

You could also experiment with 'Duplicate Handling' in the AutoRec or DVR configuration.

Well, as I tried to explain in my first post, I understand this is edge case and probably linked to EPG glitch lets call it like that. But, what is the problem still, is that duplicate recordings are using the same file even though it is clearly visible that two separate files exist.

My apologies.

You mentioned your concern about deleting the wrong recording. Are you using the TVH WebUI to delete the recording or some other software?

As far as I can tell, there is nowhere in the TVH WebUI that provides the recording file name. Perhaps this should be added to future versions.

I did a duplication experiment and I found that VLC did not play the same file. For each of my 'duplicates' the correct file was played.

My system adds the channel, date and time to the file name. If you look in 'Configuration/Recording/Digital Video Recorder Profiles/Filesystem Settings' you can change the 'Format string/Pathname specification' setting to include some more details (see the help text) that can help you match the file name to the actual recording.
