I'm trying to run tvheadend, which I had to build from source because it's not found for Fedora 40 in the repository. This included even building libdvbcsa from source. After a long and arduous process, the make script for tvheadend finally finished. And then when I went to start it...

./build.linux/tvheadend: error while loading shared libraries: libdvbcsa.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

libdvbcsa exists in /usr/local/lib/, but I don't know where tvheadend is looking for it. My google-fu has run dry, my patience is not far behind, and I'm out of ideas.

@Nixill - In my Ubuntu development system, it lives in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdvbcsa.so.1, but the date on the file suggests that it came with the OS or an additional package, not my TVH build.

That location is also where my self-built binary is looking.

Perhaps you could also try to statically link that library when you build TVH.

Now I'm having another problem: Since I built it myself, I seem to have skipped a guided setup, and I can't get access to the web UI. I opened the requisite ports in firewalld and got a login screen, then I found another answer elsewhere on the forum talking about ~/.hts/tvheadend/accesscontrol, and making that file in that place did make the "access: No access entries loaded" error go away, but it still 403s when I try to log in with the user/pass I've set in that file.

Most likely the file isn't at the right place or doesn't have the right permissions. Use the noacl option when starting Tvheadend and then configure it properly, remove the option afterwards.

That gets me into the web interface, but now the interface is not showing the TV tuner I've got. I can't find instructions on building or loading the firmware on Fedora - Hauppauge's own instructions only reference Ubuntu, with the following two sentences about any other flavor of Linux:

Most Linux kernels after 4.0 include the Hauppauge drivers, but they need to be added manually.
For Linux versions other than Ubuntu, please check your kernel's community on how to install the Hauppauge drivers. Example: Fedora 33 includes driver support for the Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD.

Nixill Clarification: The TV tuner in question is a Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD (the amazon listing says 1595).

Have a look in dmesg and look for error messages regarding the tuner cards. If there are error messages, they should include the name of the required firmware file.

Do you get any devices like /dev/dvb/adapterNNN?

DeltaMikeCharlie Yes, /dev/dvb/adapter0 and /dev/dvb/adapter1. An ls on each of those returns demux0 dvr0 frontend0 net0.

Maybe the debug/trace can give you some hints. Try enabling debug/trace for the linuxdvb subsystem.

You could also try to use a utility like w_scan or similar to see if it finds your adapters. If that can't find your adapters, perhaps it could give an error message.

The only TRACE lines I see in the logs are

As for w_scan, dnf says no match (same as it did for tvheadend itself and libdvbcsa), so it'll be a bit before I can use that.

Anyway, I did get w_scan2 built from source, and it gave me the following error (and given the final line, I tried it again with tvheadend not running — no change):

Please check wether dvb driver is loaded and
verify that no dvb application (i.e. vdr) is running.

@Nixill - I think that you can force the adapter path with w_scan, Check the command line help to find the right option.
