I've just installed tvheadend. I've been using hdhomerun's minimal program to control my tuners, and would like something just a tiny bit friendlier to use. I've been searching all over tvheadend.org and I cannot find a tutorial that lays out the steps, like:

  1. select hardware tuners
  2. scan for stations
  3. configure program guide
    etc.

The "wizard" only asks me for what language I want to use, and nothing more. Is it supposed to do other things?

I scanned the documentation, and while it has a lot of definitions of terms, I couldn't find any kind of step-by-step list of things to do, nor topics like "how to scan channels", "how to set up EPG", etc.

I've muddled about and managed to create a Network, and now there's a list of Muxes.

What's next? Does scanning happen automatically, or do I need to push a button? There's a "force scan" button
on the networks page, but it's greyed out. Why?

Thanks

I can't edit my post any more. "You do not have permission to do that." WTF?

I installed version 4.3-2323 for debian bullseye amd64.

Why is there a popup thingy covering the left half of this browser window? How do you make it go away?
I don't see a close 'x' or any other UI component to make it go away.

    Thanks

wfd2 Is it supposed to do other things?

Yes, like select adapters, create muxes, scan services, etc.

wfd2 How do you make it go away?

      Can you send a screenshot?

UPDATE -- I found the little thumbtack icon, and though I don't understand what it's supposed to mean, moving the mouse near it seems to make the sliding menu appear and disappear. Is there a way to turn this feature off? And what's up with "You don't have permission to do that" ? Why can I sometimes edit posts, and other times, not? Is this random behaviour? A time limit?

So, how does one get the wizard to progress beyond language selection? I hit "next" and the screen refreshes, and it's still asking me for language selection.

I wish I knew how to quote the text you've written.

Here's a screen shot of the annoying side menu:
Oops, can'd do that, I get "uploading files of this type is not allowed". This forum sure generates a lot of error messages.

Huh. Magically, the wizard is now progressing beyond the language selection page. I'm on my way . . .

Highlight the text and then press 'Quote".
