(SOLVED) IPTV TV Adapter disappeard

Hi,

my setup (Megasat IPTV Server) to tvheadend on plain ubuntu (no docker involved) worked great for years. Since one of the latest updates my TV Adapter disapeared and i don´t know how to get it back. I am currently running Version: 4.3-2186~g4825b8414~jammy. I tried to add a line in the ARGS section at /etc/default/tvheadend

# TVH_ARGS=""

TVH_ARGS="-f --satip_xml http://192.168.1.121:8000/description.xml"

but no adapters. When opening the url specified i see the xml output, streaming via Megasat nativly also works fine and i can ping the Megasat from tvheadend.

Any idea how to get the adapters back?!?

Has an update somehow changed your permissions in TVH and you don’t have the rights to use the tuner.

You could play around with ownerships and permissions or you could uninstall and reinstall TVH.

If you’ve complied TVH yourself have a look at any of the recent PRs in the GitHub and see if any of these may have affected your setup or work your way back through the commits until you locate the issue.

Well, tried to purge and reinstall tvheadend. Same result after running the wizard - no TV Adapters listed. I created a tar file just in case but for the time giving i have a fresh install. Any further ideas?

If you’ve compiled TVH yourself try my second suggestion.

i havn´t compiled myself - installed via apt-get from the official repro...

If I start from scratch but via binary: What would be the step by step procedure to add an IP-TV tv adapter?

What hardware is Ubuntu installed on and what version is it

Also as you are using a Sat/IP tuner make sure you have nothing blocking its discovery on your LAN. I assume the tuner is still attached to the same LAN. Check your network settings thoroughly.

i purged everything, reinstalled and copied back a few config files and the adapters are back :-)

Yes I reckoned a fresh install would do the trick. It’s usually the quickest solution. You possibly changed configuration/ownership/permissions unknowingly during an update which prevented TVH access to the tuner. Usually if an uninstall doesn’t work a complete purge will remove any artefacts of TVH allowing a complete fresh start.
