UK User - Switching to OTA EPG (from Schedules Direct). General advice and getting rid of "New" from titles.

Hi there.

My Schedules Direct account has just expired and I cannot justify the increased cost of a renewal.

I have had a go at switching to the free OTA EPG instead and the information is pretty good.

I have the OTA UK Freesat grabber set as priority 2 and then the OpenTV Sky UK grabber as priority 1. Is this the best way round and should I include any other grabbers?

The one issue I have found is that the EPG includes "New" in the title of the show.

Is there any way to remove this?

Otherwise, I have the possibility of missing certain shows in the series.

I have the defaults set for UK Freesat which work OK. These are "UK Freesat" (5) "UK Freesat (EIT)" (6) and "OpenTV Sky UK" (2).

I would call that a feature ;-) but I don't know of any way of removing it. The BBC channels don't flag new content.

Thanks very much for that Dave - I shall add the extra grabber.

How do you get round the "New" issue?

I suppose I could set up a timer to record, without this at the beginning and hope that repeats are then picked up.

If there is a new series - e.g. "New: Top Gear" and I set series link, it will only pick up that exact title.

I really want it to pick up just "Top Gear".

If I set series link from "Top Gear", it will then miss all the episodes with "New" in the title.

That's not how series link works.

When a series is being shown, the broadcaster transmits two IDs as part of the EPG for each episode. One ID relates to the series and the other to the episode. Thus when you ask TVH to record a series, it schedules recordings for all broadcasts having the same series ID.

If the broadcaster repeats the series, eg the following day at a different time, then each of those episodes will have the same episode ID as the first showing but a different series ID.

The broadcaster will probably add 'New:' to the title of the first showing but not the second, however this doesn't matter to TVH which is only looking at the IDs.
