How to best view and record TVH externally?

Hi I was wondering what the best way is to allow me to view my live channels and recordings externally from my local network?

E.g. watching BBC 1 HD live from my android phone while commuting on the train or in another country to watch UK?

I've ready really good things about dream player for TVheadend.

Tried it, it works when I'm at home on my local network, but if I try to use it outside it just says offline. But the server is on and running fine on my network
