General help for a newb

Hi first post after some advice, I have migrated from Windows to Linux - In my old set up in windows:

TBS6903 - motorised dish - SmartDVB

Current setup: ZORIN OS (ubuntu) GT1030, G3258, 8gb ram

Now I have many things I need to work out, how to set up my motorised dish, how to set up Oscam and use BISS Keys etc

Firstly what is the best setting to use for picture? I am viewing through Firefox on my Sony 55 inch OLED AG8

The picture is not great - have a look at the picture I have attached is there a recommended setting?

In the watch TV box there is a drop down where you can select from several profiles - in smart dvb i used LAV filters to modify certain settings

Also can you watch 4.2.2 feeds in tvheadend?

Watching on browser inside TV is most worst idea I ever seen.
There is KODI - multifunctional PVR client of TVH,

there is a lot of other apps, use market and type "tvheadend".

All of them support EPG, reminders, recoding and more.

CPU usage and quality is affected by transcoding you use.

Totally agree with saen acro. You can use a front end and keep TVH as a DVR only. Things work much better in a number of areas. I would first just try to get TVH integrated with Kodi. Kodi is a front end client (unlike Plex, Emby, JellyFin which are media servers). I can quickly install a Kodi instance on my Windows PC and point to TVH to test it.

Ok thank you for the replies so install Kodi as a frontend

One more thing so if a feed is posted on 10 east for example can I search for that feed and enter biss keys etc in Kodi?

Also I have a positioner and actuator setup can this be configured in Kodi ie Diseqc 2

Sorry for the dumb questions still figuring out whats what, I have used Kodi in the past but never with a satellite setup

You are asking a Kodi question in a TVHeadend forum. I would recommend asking it on the Kodi forum. You can try to ask a new question on this forum, if tvheadend will do that when it tunes to a channel. Kodi has thousands of plugins; it is possible it has something, but I am not aware.

Fair enough sort of got it up and running but the channels are taking a few minutes to open

Could anyone point in the right direction of how to install oscam in tvheadend because there is no straight forward answer

There is oscam in the software centre which tells me:

All configuration files can be found under /var/snap/oscam/current/etc/oscam/

The Web Interface listens on port 8083 by default

When I access oscam in the web interface there are no files very confusing

When you watch TV do you care how operator serve them to you?

That's the idea of client /kodi/ to watch.

Vìew is end product aka FRONTEND
Now you need to configure middlewhere aka Tvheadend

for your sources /backend/ to stay channels in frontend

TVH support Diseqc and Rotor setups.

Do your homework

Hi I have done my homework Oscam is up and running ie I have not stopped reading

Now my only problem is channels are taking up to 5 minutes to load

I have all of my sats tuned in now

Have totally uninstalled tvheadend using the purge command

Right I finally got it installed now I have totally borked it

Ran sudo apt-get install zlib1g-dev

sudo apt-get install liburiparser-dev

Then I went to my /home folder and cd tvheadend

./configure
make

make install

Did I install it correctly?

This time when starting tvheadend in terminal all is green finally (I think my previous issue was I had 2 instances running, one from the snap store and one I had manually installed) see attached image

Now I have somehow managed to bork my login details - so I proceed to look for the .hts/accesscontrol file which should be in /home/gary it is not there, now I have a .hts/accesscontrol file if I use the command 'find .hts/accesscontrol' and if I delete the contents I am still having issues (did my homework)

So I noticed when I used the buildscript which is linked there was several files that were downloaded to my pc:

tvheadend
media tvheadend_4.2.8-36~g5bdcfd8ac_amd64.buildinfo
media_build tvheadend_4.2.8-36~g5bdcfd8ac_amd64.changes
Music tvheadend_4.2.8-36~g5bdcfd8ac_amd64.deb

nvidia-patch tvheadend-dbg_4.2.8-36~g5bdcfd8ac_amd64.deb

Now there is many references to amd? even though my machine has a G3258

Did I install it correctly because my .hts details are not in my home folder I have even checked the /opt/ folder as I saw this referenced

I have probably learnt more in the last few days than in my computing life, this does not bother me in the slightest end of the day I will just delete it again and start again I still have the buildscript

The main thing for me is the attached image all green thats a tiny victory plus I think I figured out my previous issue

So now whats my next move (rhetorical question)... I cant login and deleting the .hts folder does not help nor tvheadend -C (plus not sure if I borked the installation)

Take a look at my multiple .hts/accesscontrol entries lol

I dont even know where those files are I can only use the 'find' command

Ok totally deleted .hts folder and have access again

On setting up again have noticed channel change is instant ie 2 seconds BUT once I add an extra satellite ie with the GOTOX function the channel change takes up to 3 minutes again and I see the 'no free adaptor' message again

So the problem with slow loading of channels is linked to extra satellites somehow

I am only using one tuner on my TBS6903 and have the other tuner disabled (see image)
