Problems with Transcoding

Hello together,

As my fire-tv stick cannot de-interlace, I'm thinking about transcoding. There are other reasons for transcoding as well.

I'm recording 50hz nonHD and HD material from DVB-S2.

The picture is pretty unclear in Kodi on my firetv stick.

VLC on my windows computer can do the job, if I turn on de-interlacing 2xYadif.

If I turn on transcoding, tvheadend likes to free on my ubuntu 18.04 server.

That server is running on an ESXI hardware.

Details:
4 CPUs x Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-8100 CPU @ 3.60GHz
Fujitsu mainboard

TBS DVBS-2 Card (passthrough)

Tvheadend version: HTS Tvheadend 4.2.8-36~g5bdcfd8ac

Recording works pretty good with pass / matroska profile.

If I switch to webtv-h264-aac-matroska or webtv-h264-aac-mpegts with 720p resolution (height) tvheadend likes to freeze after some minutes.

Any ideas?

Is there something wrong with my hardware or do I need a GPU?

I saw today that there is a bugfix for the 100% cpu load issue. Will try that.

Does tvheadend support gpu transcoding or is my cpu powerfull enough?
