Suggestions for a new (Windows based) Raspberry Pi3 alternative.

Hello.

Whilst my Pi3 has done a great job in my living room to date, as a front end, my family have started to watch video from other sources too.

In addition to watching live and recorded TV from the central TVHeadend server, we also make use of Netflix (via Smart TV) and SkyGo (via a laptop, plugged into the TV).

To have a browser on the TV would also be a bonus.

I have decided to swap to a single device that can do it all.

My main requirements (other than having to run windows) is that it is small, silent and not too power hungry.

I am currently looking at the Beelink S2 - seems to be very good value for what you get.

What do you guys think or would you recommended anything else?

I'd suggest keeping the Pi and buying a dongle/box like the Amazon, Roku, or AppleTV for the other stuff. Your family will probably find it a lot easier to stream stuff via the dongle than via a laptop/nuc/fanless and sometimes the interfaces are just easier to use from the sofa on the dongle than on a PC, such as having voice search and big buttons/easy to switch apps, etc. You also have all the miscellaneous apps that can be interesting for about five minutes.

I have the AppleTV. I don't particularly recommend it for the price. The NowTV stick I bought, although noticeable slower, does roughly the same for streaming, though has a more rough interface/search facility.

NowTV frequently has offers on where the stick is effectively "free".
