Is there a way to set the Kodi add-on to only record new episodes?

Can I set Tvheadend to only record new episodes using just the Kodi add-on? Currently, I use Kodi to create the timer then log onto the Tvheadend web interface to set the Broadcast type in the Autorecs tab as New/ premier/ unknown. It works but I'm wondering if there is an easier way.

yes, in the "timer rules" section you can set desired actions, from a lot of different situations.

record all episodes
record if episode number differs
record if episode name differs
record if description differs
record max once a month
record max once a week
record max once a day

blah blah blah...

several options for you to choose from so you don't have duplicate recordings.

i even have one timer rule set up for just a time slot. sunday sports always runs past the time allotted. so instead of recording 60 minutes from 6-7pm, i record a time slot for the channel i select from 6-8:30pm. now if sports runs over, i have the show i want (and the exciting ending of the game that everyone is talking about the next day at work).

The list above contributes to my confusion. Which option do I choose to record only new broadcasts of a series? I.e., if it is series that has been on for a while and I've only recently started using Tvheadend, which option do I choose so I don't record old reruns.

i set mint to do episode number on most. my only episode description is when i do PBS shows like nova, frontline, and nature. they air on multiple channels, numerous times a week. so it keeps the repeats down. just play with it until you get the conditions that work well for your situation.

OK, I'll give that a try.
I may put in a request that they add the "Broadcast type" field to the Tvheadend Kodi add-on.
