Saul Peebsen The box runs Gentoo. First I built Tvheadend without ffmpeg. I have two DVB-T cards and scan found nothing. Then I tried to build with ffmpeg and the build fails. Question: Do I need ffmpeg to receive ATSC?
Saen Acro No you need it just for external needs. TVH build his own code from ffmpeg h264 aac for internal transcoding engine
Saul Peebsen Thanks for reply. Then the question is why it did not find any channels with scan? I have MythTV in this box and it finds 42 TV channels. Of course I did shut down the mythbackend while experimenting with Tvheadend to free up the cards.
Saen Acro If adapter is in tvh list of devices its free from other using software's. If not services found then scan parameters is not correct or "driver communication" is not so good.
Saul Peebsen I see now there is no preset ready to use for DVB-T ATSC channels. I guess I have to read up how to set it up manually.

Saul Peebsen Oh, I was thinking DVB-T stands for Digital Video Broadcasting — Terrestrial. And ATSC-T is terrestrial digital video broadcasting.
