DVBSky T9580 -- is it any good?

Hi,

I need to get a DVB-S2 tuner (preferably a PCIe version, and not USB). I will use it with n3150 ITX board and under Ubuntu Serve 16.04 LTS (present kernel 4.4.0). The main feed will be DVB-S2, but I will also watch DVB-T. A single tuner for both is enough, I don't need dual.

I read quite good reviews about the DVBSky T9580 card, and according to Linux TV it has kernel support since 3.9. I did however read (here as well) that some newer kernels have problems with this tuner, but most of these problems were supposed to addressed until kernel 4.3 the latest. What is the present situation, is this card working ootb now and it performs stable and fine? No need to do hacks, tricks, etc, it just works?

I have the version 2 of this card and it works fine with tvheadend. I'm not sure about the v3 though but it should work as expected by now!

Thanks Mark, may I ask which linux are you using and which kernel? I don't know if they would send me a v1 or v3 version, since the v3 is the newer, possible that. V3 should be also supported since kernel 3.9.

Is the card stable and reliable, on dvb-s and dvb-t too?

Debian and vanilla 4.4.2-220216c1 I built myself, I've used it on older kernels < 3.9 using the media build.

It should be fine as long as you have a newer kernel, if you use Ubuntu 16.04 it should work out of box as that uses 4.4. Debian Jessie by default still has 3.16 but can be upgraded to 4.x using backports.

Yes, they both work fine together.

Great, many thanks. I just bought the T9580 card. It should arrive by end of the week, but I will be able to test it only a week later. I will certainly report back here about the card and how it works in my system.
