From my post on the Ubuntu Server forums...

Hi Guys, Need some help please.
I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 (Tried upgrading to 11.10 but had nothing but headaches) and recently it's started shutting itself down.
The CPU temperatures were getting up to 80c and I assumed it was the computer shutting itself off due to overheating but I've installed a new fan today, my temps are now ranging in the 30s-40s and it's shut itself off again once already.
I recently installed my TV card into the server and managed to get tvheadend installed and working with all my computers in the house using XBMC.
I've read in the forums that Ubuntu can shut off computers due to hardware, you think that the TV card might be the culprit?
I will say that the server never shut itself off before I had the TV card installed so that's my 2nd suspect.
If so, Is there anything I can do to tell Ubuntu to restart instead of shutting down? (A server that shuts itself off isn't much use).
For more info, the TV card in question is a Hauppauge HVR4000 and I have the latest bin file from the windows drivers installed. (As far as I know the firmware is embedded in Ubuntu itself so that should be up to date, yes?)
Thanks in advance

I replaced the CPU cooler and the temps were fine, someone suggested he had the same symptoms and it was a failing power supply, so I replaced the power supply and the computer is still shutting itself down.
I've seen a few posts around the net saying Ubuntu shuts itself down due to hardware problems so I'm looking at the tv card (Not tv headend!) as the culprit. Obviously this is really annoying cos I wanted to have the home server as a full media server, movies, tv and livetv.
Has anyone else had these problems? What TV cards are people using and is there a guide to which tv cards are best?
Thanks for your help guys
