you have kodi and tvheadend on the same machine, right?
Correct.
And you have no problems with Kodi, except for this?
Yep. The only thing that seemed awkward was that Kodi crashed initially after I tried to activate the TV settings. But after I restarted Kodi, I had no problems installing iptvsimple or the tvheadend plugin (except for the "can't connect"-error.
Question: should I be using the address Kodi created after discovering TVHeadend? Or is it better to use the localhost IP (127.0.0.1)?
What do you have in tvheadend webinterface -> configuration -> access
I've configured two accounts. Both of them have admin rights.
Can you see your kodi in status -> connections?
Unfortunately not.
that it works well... if configured correctly.
I don't know... maybe this is the problem. I used this tutorial:
https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/DVB-Karten/Digital_Devices_Cine_S2
I hope you understand German ;-) Basically the tutorial teaches you how to compile the drivers yourself, which I followed ...until I realized the tutorial also offers an automatic installation at the bottom of the page. And then I chose that over the manual installation.
But since TVHeadend recognized a tvcard and started collecting data, I thought everything was working correctly.
Does your TVHeadend reconize the card by it's correct name? Mine says "STV090x Multistandard DVB-S #0".
You could also, now that you are getting out of the dark and into the Linux-world, install an IRC-client and join us at the IRC-channel, #hts.
Will do :)
