This is for use with string placeholders. e.g.
http://foo.com/%C.png

That's for icons available from XMLTV data. If you're not using that don't worry.

Can you see the icon in your browser being served by imagecache?
In Channels/EPG -> Channels highlight a column title, click the arrow then columns and finally tick Icon URL. You should see URLs or e.g, imagecache/1.png (access this via http://your.ip.addr:9981/imagecache/1.png)
If they load fine in your browser, you've hit Kodi's "won't load images that require auth" 'bug'. You need an anon user with web access for Kodi to load the icons.
